Day 1

Arrival in Sicily

Arrival at Catania Airport. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and night in the hotel.

Day 2

Up to the highest Volcano in Europe and to Taormina

Breakfast in hotel. Excursion to Mt. Etna. You will reach the southern slopes of the volcano till 2,000 above sea level and take a walk around the Crateri Silvestri, extinct craters.
In the afternoon visit of Taormina, the old Tauromenion, founded in 358 BC. The town lies on a hill terrace overlooking the Ionian coast with the majestic and spectacular Etna as a backdrop. Taormina, praised by several poets and famous writers - notably W. Goethe - in the past centuries, is still one of the most exclusive international tourist destinations. The main monuments are: Palazzo Corvaja, at the entrance of the town, with its 15th century facade showing a series of two-mullioned windows; the Cathedral of the 13th century, the Greek-Roman Theatre.

Day 3

Noto “the Garden in Stone” and Syracuse

Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to Noto, known as the “a garden in stone”, speechless example or Baroque architecture: the Cathedral, the churches of San Francesco (St. Francis) and of Santa Chiara (St. Clare), the Monastero del Salvatore, Palazzo Ducezio (the local Town Hall), Palazzo Nicolaci di Villa Dorata, the church of San Domenico (St. Dominique) and the theatre.
In the afternoon tour of Syracuse: the archaeological area, the Greek Theatre, the Latomia del Paradiso (an ancient Greek quarry), the Grotta dei Cordari, the Ara of Hiero II, the Roman Amphitheater. The visit continues to discover the historical centre of Ortigia: the Temple of Apollo, the Cathedral and the Fountain of Arethusa.
Dinner and night in a hotel in Modica or nearby.

Day 4

Ibla and Modica: the Baroque of Ragusa area

Breakfast in hotel. In the morning tour of the ancient Ragusa, named Ibla, striking and charming town with its Palazzi Cosentini and La Rocca (Cosentini and La Rocca Palaces), enriched with unbelievable stone grotesques under the balconies; the amazing façade-tower of San Giorgio (Saint George), ingenious creation by Rosario Gagliardi.
Back to Modica and tour of the town, enchanting jewel of Baroque art.
Break in one of the most renowned confectionery to taste the excellent local chocolate.
Transfer to Agrigento. Accommodation, dinner and night in hotel.

Day 5

The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento

Breakfast in hotel. In the morning tour of the Valle dei Templi (Valley of the Temples): the place is not a proper valley but rather a mountain plateau along which, during the fifth and sixth centuries BC, where built a series of temples evidence of the welfare the town enjoyed at that time. Notably visit the Tempio di Zeus Olimpico (Temple of Olympian Zeus), Castore e Polluce (Castor and Pollux), the Tempio di Ercole (Temple of Hercules)and the Temple of the Concordia (Temple of the Concorde), which is very well preserved.
In the afternoon transfer to Marsala. Accommodation, dinner and night in hotel.

Day 6

The Saline, The island of the Stagnone and Selinunte

Breakfast in hotel.
In the morning transfer to the pier for the island of San Pantaleo, today’s name for the ancient Motya (meaning “spinning mill”), where Phoenicians founded a thriving settlement. It is due to an Englishman, Joseph Whitaker, the “rediscovery” of the island. Whitaker’s excavations brought to light the town walls with towers and gateways, an open-air sanctuary – the “tophet” where used to be laid the remains of human sacrifices -, a necropolis and the cothon – a dry dock for repairing ships. You can also visit the nineteenth century Villa Whitaker, now a museum. Following visit to one of the several salt pans within the protected area of the Islands Stagnone. You can visit a mill and the salt pan around it.
In the afternoon tour of Selinunte, the name comes from the Greek “Selinon” which designated a kind of wild parsley growing copiously in the area. The town was founded by Megara Hyblaea during the seventh century BC. Selinunte boasts the widest archaeological site in the Mediterranean area.
Transfer to a hotel in Palermo.

Day 7

Palermo: the Capital city of the Region

Breakfast in hotel. Visit of the city with its main monuments: the Royal Norman Palace, now the site of the Sicilian Regional Assembly with The Palatine Chapel, situated on the first floor, built by Roger II between 1130-1140. The interior is highly suggestive marked by the extraordinary quality and beauty of its mosaics and the very fine wooden ceiling (Arab handicrafts). The visit of the city goes on to the Cathedral, the Quattro Canti (the Four Corners), the Martorana church.

Day 8

Monreale and Departure

Breakfast in hotel. Tour of Monreale, high on the Conca D’Oro (the plane around Palermo) and famous for its superb Duomo. The town developed as urban core when Guglielmo II decided to build the Cathedral, with the annexed Royal Palace and Monastery.
Transfer to the airport and departure.
